The slow trickle of new features from At a Glance always keeps Pixel owners on the edge of their seat. But an upcoming “Cross-Device Timer” could take the smart widget to a whole new level: Soon, At-a-Glance will show you a countdown to timers created on Nest Hubs and other Google Assistant devices.

For those unfamiliar, the at-a-glance widget displays useful information on the lock screen or home screen of a Pixel phone. Daily step counts, smart doorbell alerts, and Bluetooth battery indicators are just three things that can appear in At a Glance.

The APK Insight team at 9to5Google discovered a new and unannounced feature at a glance in the 13.26 beta version of the Google app. While the exact functionality of this feature is unknown, we do know that it pulls Google Assistant timers from other devices, specifically smart speakers and displays.

This feature is long overdue and highly requested by Google Assistant users. It could also pave the way for more integrations into Google’s hardware ecosystem. (Now, if only Google would work on Android TV smart home integration. That would be nice.)

But we are still missing many details. We don’t know if your Pixel phone vibrates when time runs out, for example. And if “cross-device” functionality is the goal, is there a chance for Nest Hubs to display timers created on your phone?

We’re not sure when Google will release Cross Device Timers. But based on previous At a Glance updates, I expect to wait a few months.
