Apple has informed users of a possible drop in shipments as a result of a factory outage at Apple’s main iPhone 14 Pro assembly plant in Zhengzhou, China. This stems from a state-mandated quarantine, following an outbreak of COVID-19 there. The pandemic is still wreaking havoc around the world, but China is one of the only countries in the world still using a radical zero-tolerance approach to the virus and its spread.
Apple says the facility is currently operating at “significantly reduced” capacity, but even a partial shutdown could prove disastrous for iPhone shipments around the world. The Zhengzhou plant is capable of producing up to 500,000 iPhones per day at full capacity and accounts for more than half of Apple’s annual iPhone sales. The company also said it is working closely with its supplier to “return to normal production levels and ensure the health and safety of all workers.”
