As if conference calls weren’t enough, AMC and Zoom are teaming up to bring massive video conferencing to movie theaters. Businesses can rent three-hour blocks at select AMC locations starting next year. And if the boss is okay with that, he can even watch a movie after the conference call.

I’m not sure what else to say about all of this, so here are some memes:

Now, I love falling asleep in AMC’s reclining theater chairs. Launching a conference call on the screen would render me unconscious in record time. But I probably wouldn’t get a chance to fall asleep during one of these things, since they seem like they’re meant for celebrations: Your company is having a profitable year, so you gather 150 employees in a theater to take a call from the CEO and watch. Finding Nemo.

For better or worse, this AMC and Zoom partnership is the result of declining theater revenue. Customers just aren’t interested in watching movies on the big screen; now they have the habit of staying at home. (And even if you go back to the theater, the audience is horrible and entitled! People forgot how to shut up and put their phones away.)
