After launching its first all-electric truck, the F-150 Lightning, Ford is wasting no time jumping to another model. Last week, Ford announced “Project T3,” a new pickup that’s coming in 2025. Now, the CEO has some bold claims about what to expect.

Ford confirmed that the new T3, which stands for Trust the Truck, will be built and launched in 2025, which means we expect a prototype or demo model later this year or early 2024.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know at this point. The Michigan automaker didn’t share any specifications about its range, battery packs, styling, or whether it will fall under the Lightning brand or something else, such as an electric F-150 Raptor. The press release said it would be “fully upgradeable, constantly improving, and compatible with towing, hauling, exportable power, and a host of other innovations owners will want.”

We’ve heard those kinds of promises before, and it’s well documented that EVs have trouble towing due to decreased range. Those aren’t Ford’s only bold claims, however.

During the presentation, Ford Motor CEO Chris Farley spoke with Elon Musk and claimed that the next electric Ford pickup would drive itself. Saying, “On the highway on a sunny day, you should be able to go sleep in your truck or make a call or do whatever you want in your truck while it does the driving for you. It will be completely digital. It is a truly revolutionary product.”

Vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E already offer hands-free driving features, known as BlueCruise, available on select pre-mapped highways and highways across the United States.

That said, this latest comment suggests that by 2025 Ford believes its self-driving technology could be so good that it will drive for you, even while you sleep. Today, most driver assistance systems still require the driver to be alert, aware, and ready to take control at any time.

Either way, we can’t wait to see what Ford is working on for its second-generation electric pickup truck, though it’s likely to be a while before we know more.
