Gmail may be just an email service to some, but it also functions as the centerpiece of the Google Workspace experience, with a handful of integrations to services like Meet and Chat. Now, there’s a new feature in the Gmail sidebar.

The Google Contacts sidebar in Gmail, which you can find to the right of your window along with apps like Google Tasks and Google Keep, currently allows you to view your contacts. A new change is rolling out that will allow you to add new contacts and edit existing ones. Currently, the only way to do this is to do it from your phone or through the actual Google Contacts web client; this will also allow you to quickly do it through Gmail.

It’s just a sidebar, but it should still work pretty well, unlike the sidebars of other services like Calendar, where things can feel a bit cramped. If you have your Google account connected to your phone, any changes you make to your contacts in Gmail will be reflected on your phone as soon as things sync.

The feature has been rolling out since February 17, but it might take a few days to reach everyone. It’s not yet available on our end, so your mileage may vary.
