Electric vehicles continue to grow in popularity, and the same can be said for electric boats. Now a former Tesla executive has his own brand of electric speedboats, and the company recently showed off some renders and shared more details about its launch at CES 2023.

at the end of last year, electric reported on a new company called Blue Innovation Group (BIG) and its plans for an electric powered boat. John Vo, a former Tesla executive who ran the global manufacturing arm from 2011 to 2017, is the founder, and the project looks pretty impressive.

BIG’s high-performance electric speedboat will reportedly go into production in late 2023, with the company targeting a US launch sometime in early 2024. At least according to multiple reports from evannex and CleanTechnica.

Blue Innovation Group’s first electric boat, the R30, will cost around $300,000 and has a lot going for it. Some specs include a 30-foot length with a folding tailgate, dual electric motors with 400 horsepower each, totaling 800 HP, and a top speed of around 45 MPH.

The site mentioned a runtime of 8 hours on a single charge, or about 150 nautical miles depending on speed. It can be charged to 80% in about 45 minutes with a DC fast charger, or owners can take advantage of a solar panel array on the roof deck. However, the solar system is only 2.7 kW and would take over a week to fully charge.

Other specifications include an aluminum hull with a lifetime warranty, a built-in 50-gallon fresh water tank, sinks, a refrigerator, a microwave and more, all running on the on-board battery electric system.

In terms of boating gear, the BIG R30 will employ traditional GPS and sonar sensors, an in-house developed infotainment system (and dual screens) to relax in a cove with music, along with Internet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and others. modern conveniences.

The boat will reportedly be perfect for sailing, fishing and water sports or comfortable enough for casual everyday use. If the project becomes a reality, this luxurious electric speedboat sounds good, but we’ll need to see actual images before saying anything else.

If all goes to plan, expect production later this year with a 2024 release in the United States.
