The running joke about Target is that you can’t set foot inside without seriously hurting your wallet. That’s probably still true thanks to the retailer’s impressive array of quality products, but there’s a smart way to save a little while loading up your cart.
Target’s price match system not only allows shoppers to match prices in-store and online, it also allows you to get rebates of cost differences up to 14 days after purchase.
While some may already be familiar with Target politics, Target’s clever shopping hack is going viral thanks to Vivian Tu or Your Rich BFF on Instagram. You are known for her financial advice and explanations of her on the social media platform, and she has provided a wealth of shopping insight with one of her latest videos.
You explained the policy while posing as customer and cashier in a clever video, and it’s a pretty simple idea. Target wants to make sure its customers get the best price. If a customer can show a current listing at a competitive retailer (You give Walmart as an example), Target will lower their price to match it. But it’s so much more than the standard price match found at a multitude of retailers.
In addition to matching prices on the spot, if you buy an item and then find it cheaper elsewhere, you can get a refund of the difference if you find it cheaper elsewhere within 14 days. All you need to do is bring your receipt to the store along with proof that the item is cheaper elsewhere. Target will refund the difference between what you paid and the cost at the other retailer. Don’t have a receipt? If you have a Target Circle account and used your rewards, it will track your purchases and provide proof of what you purchased and at what price.
This goes for a large list of retailers, including online sellers like Amazon. You can find the full list of qualified competitors on the Target website.
If you’re a dedicated Target shopper but looking to be more budget-conscious, Tu’s hack is a must-try.
