The HBO adaptation of the popular video game The last of us opened on January 15 to acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Today, if you search for the title of the game/series, you’ll get a fun easter egg that simulates cordyceps growing by filling the screen.

When you google “The Last of Us”, you get regular search results. The first thing that appears on the desktop version is information about the show and its cast. The best results on Google’s mobile app are some purchase options for the 2013 game. However, in both results you’ll see a small red circle with a mushroom in the center. Tap it once and some animated mushrooms will appear from the bottom of the screen.

It’s a fun little gag, but the button doesn’t disappear after the first tap. Press it again and more digital mushrooms will grow on the sides of the screen. One more touch and it comes out the top. You can tap as many times as you like until the search results are completely filled with the mushrooms oozing from the game.

I stopped counting how many more times goo oozed onto my screen with 20 taps and gave up after another dozen times. So there may or may not be a limit to how much you can grow. Another fun thing about this easter egg is that you can share it with friends. Right next to the mushroom button is a share icon that allows you to send the search results to your own. The last of us Fan’s club.
