You don’t always need the brightest and best when it comes to smartphones. After all, a new phone is usually a very expensive purchase. More people are realizing that, as the new numbers show, used phones are more popular than ever.

Sales of used smartphones are higher than ever now, with more than 282 million used phones sold as of 2022, according to IDC data. This represents a year-on-year increase of 11.5% and, Although new phones are still selling like hot cakes, it shows a growing trend of people buying second-hand. The second-hand market is full of great deals, allowing you to get old phones for a fraction of the price or even scoop a few hundred bucks off a gently used current model.

The reason for this is not particularly difficult to guess. Economic inflation was a problem for most of 2022 (and it hasn’t gone away), and buying a new smartphone probably isn’t a priority if someone has other bills to pay. The iPhone 14 Pro Max can start at $1,100, while you can get used iPhone 12 or 13 devices for as little as $300.

After all, it is considered a good practice to buy a used and older flagship than to opt for a mid-range smartphone. If you’re on a budget and need another phone, you might want to consider one as well.
