Have you ever wished your smartphone had a battery that could last a week or two, like those old Nokia phones? I think everyone would agree that it sounds amazing. A Redditor took it upon himself to make a phone do just that, but you don’t want to use it.
Smartphones continue to get better with each release, and while battery life is slowly elongating, it’s still arguably one of the weakest links. As a result, one Reddit user got hold of Samsung’s affordable Galaxy A32 5G with a 5,000mAh battery, and then added an extra 30,000mAh to the phone.
Some of the more expensive devices, like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, only come with a 5,000mAh battery. So upgrading a budget phone to more than six times that capacity is pretty wild. However, nothing about the end result is pretty or all that helpful. It’s pretty awful.
The Reddit user bought six Samsung 50E battery cells and connected them in parallel, which ended up being a huge 30,000mAh battery. That obviously doesn’t fit inside a smartphone, so it’s glued and attached to the back. The user says that this gadget takes about seven hours to fully charge, but it will likely last 10-12 days, if not longer, on a charge.
While it’s certainly not pretty, this mod also offers two USB-A ports at the bottom for charging other devices from the brick, not to mention USB-C and Lightning inputs. Personally, I would buy a portable battery and call it a day.
It’s worth noting that this probably isn’t the best idea, not to mention a fire safety hazard, but it’s nice to see what some common people can think of and create.
