We all have. We had the best of intentions to fold our clothes as soon as they came out of the dryer, but it just didn’t happen. Now, two days later, you have a mess of crumpled clothes. But before you get the iron out, you might want to grab some ice.

Putting ice in the dryer and running a new cycle can help remove wrinkles from clothing.

This laundry hack sounds weird, but when you think about it, the process makes sense. When you put ice in the dryer and immediately turn on the heat, the ice will essentially create steam inside the dryer. Both moisture and heat work to remove wrinkles.

For this to work, you only need a handful of ice cubes (don’t overdo it and get your clothes wet again). You should also run only a short cycle instead of fully drying your clothes again.

While we know using ice in the dryer sounds like a wild hack, it’s not that different from another common method: using a damp towel. Dampen (not soak) a clean towel. Then throw it away with your clothes. Like ice, the towel will create steam and loosen wrinkles.

Don’t worry if you accidentally leave your clothes in the dryer too long. Take some ice and stand to dry. Don’t have time for that? Check out these other wrinkle-busting tips.
