dragon ball super

Status: Finished (131 episodes).

Scripted by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Super is a blast of fresh air for DBZ fans who were totally disappointed with the failure of Dragon Ball GT .

This new series happens a few months after the end of the Dragon Ball Z events , when Goku defeats Majin Boo and restores peace on Earth … although not for long!

Dragon Ball Super presents new and powerful threats to Z Warriors, such as Bills, The God of Destruction , as well as other powerful gods trying to destroy our planet, in the best Martial Arts Tournament style. We also meet former villains, like a Frieza reborn and thirsty for revenge!

The series began airing on July 5, 2015 and ended on March 25, 2018. On August 5, 2017, the series premiered throughout Latin America through the paid television channel Cartoon Network Latin America.

24. Bucky (Jibaku-kun) best anime

bucky anime

Status: Finished (26 episodes).

Bucky , originally Jibaku-kun , originally aired between October 1999 and March 2000. This series especially enjoyed great success in Brazil, despite the low popularity it had in other countries, including its home country.

Based on the manga created by Ami Shibata, Bucky tells the story of a world where humans, monsters, and spirits live in perfect harmony. But the whole balance of this place (known as Mundo 12) collapses when something terrible happens with the Princess of the “Pointed Tower”.

Throughout the episodes we accompany Bucky and Jibak as they traverse the 12 worlds of “World 12” (which is shaped like a clock), confronting their respective “Big Boys” and spirits, as well as their protective monsters.

It may seem like a pretty confusing argument at first glance, but as soon as you start watching Bucky, you’ll also desperately want to have an explosive “pink round monster”!

23. One Piece

one piece

Status: Currently broadcasting.

Airing since 1999, One Piece is one of the longest anime of all time by Eiichiro Oda , based on the manga of the same name, originally published in 1997.

The plot of the story centers on the pirate Monkey D. Luffy and Straw Hat Pirates. The young man’s goal is very “simple”: to find the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates.

One Piece mythology is riddled with different races, such as mermaids, dwarves, giants, among other strange creatures that inhabit the different seas described in the anime.

Like all shounen (or most of them), One Piece shows the growth and maturity of the protagonist, while facing super strong adversaries in different story arcs. If you’re a fan of this anime genre, One Piece should definitely be on your must-have list.

22. Ajin ( best anime )

ajin anime

Status: Finished (26 episodes).

Ajin is one of the animes seinen (for the male audience between 18 and 40 years) coolest in recent times and is also available on Netflix.

The plot revolves around the existence of the Ajin, who are a kind of immortal human beings. Due to the rarity and eccentricity of these types of people, the government offers a great reward for whoever captures an Ajin, in order to subject them to experiments, because they are interested in knowing more about them and how to exploit their immortality for their own benefit.

This series also features several films ( Ajin Part 1 ; Shōdō, Ajin Part 2 ; Shōtots and Ajin Part 3 ; Shōgeki ), the manga (still in publication), an OVA (with 3 episodes) and another film directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro .

21. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

code geass anime

Status: Finished (25 episodes).

If you’re a fan of anime, you’ve surely heard of Lelouch Lamperouge . A warrior prince who uses the power of his Geass (a powerful eye that forces anyone to follow the orders of whoever possesses it) to destroy the world as we know it and build a new, kinder and more perfect society, like his sister always dreamed.

This is the plot of Code Geass , a sensational anime whose character design is made by CLAMP ( Sakura Cardcaptor and Chobits ).

In addition to having a spectacular look, strong characters and an interesting and complex plot, Code Geass is also an excellent critic on the definition of justice, offering important reflections on the way we live in society today.

If the 25 episodes of the series are short, you can always read the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Black Kinigths One manga , with 8 published volumes.

20. Highschool of the Dead

highschool of dead anime

Status: Finished (12 episodes).

For someone who is tired of the same old stories about the zombie apocalypse, Highschool of the Dead is a good short-lived anime for fans of this genre.

Komuro Takashi is a young man who sees a terrible infection spread in his school, transforming his friends into zombies. So far no news, right?

What makes this anime different is the evolution of the story throughout the episodes, focusing on crises and conflicts that would be real, if we find ourselves in this situation, such as the destruction of the main human moral codes.

The anime is based on the first 5 volumes of the manga of the same name, which has a total of 7 published volumes.

19. Yu Yu Hakusho ( best anime )

yu yu hakusho

Status: Completed (112 episodes).

Since his death was not being expected by the rulers of the underworld, they decide to revive Urameshi to occupy the position of supernatural detective, while evaluating whether the boy deserves to go to paradise or hell. Thus, the young man goes on to investigate cases related to demons and ghosts that invade the world of the living.

18. Hunter x Hunter best anime

hunter x hunter

Status: Completed (62 episodes | 148 episodes).

Hunter x Hunter is another title that you cannot miss and a good suggestion for those who want to immerse themselves in the world of anime. Scripted by Tsutomu Kamishiro , this anime is divided into two series: the first released between 1999 and 2001, and the second between 2011 and 2014.

Here we are going to refer to the second version of the anime, considered the most complete, since it adapts all the story arcs seen in the manga.

Although the viewer continues to see the trajectory of Gon Freecss, the protagonist, and his friends in search of discovering what it is to be a Hunter, evolve, the plot does not close only to that and presents differentiated stories with their own autonomy.

The anime proposes a reflection on humanity, with interesting and controversial themes such as prejudice, inequality, poverty, the family, among others.

The animation is in charge of Madhouse , known for having produced Death Note and One-Punch Man . That means we can look forward to beautiful, smooth and beautifully done action sequences!

17. Death Note

death note

Status: Finished (37 episodes).

This is the weapon that Light Yagami , a high school student, uses to “fight evil.” When the young man discovers the Death Note, he decides to write on it the names of all the criminals in the city, in order to achieve a more peaceful society.

However, Light’s plans end up being interrupted by L. , a private detective who became one of the most iconic characters in the series, in addition to Ryuk (the “god of death”), obviously.

In August 2017, Netflix released the live-action American adaptation of Death Note , directed by Adam Wingard, Nat Wolff as Light Yagami, Keith Stanfield as L., and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk. This television movie was warmly welcomed and horrified fans of the original series.

Tenchi Muyo! is a series of anime, by Kajishima Masaki and Hiroshi Hayashi , a young man Tenchi Masaki

The series is divided into two seasons that have no connection to each other, as if each one happened in a parallel universe: Tenchi! Universe (1st season) and Tenchi in Tokyo (2nd season).

However, in all series, Tenchi Masaki and the space girls (Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, Mihoshi, Washu and Kiyone) are present to face the various enemies that appear, be they warriors from another galaxy or demonic spirits!

There is still a third series called Tenchi Muyo! GXP , issued in 2002 and which also has 26 episodes.

Tenchi Muyo! is a series that appeals to different types of audiences, from shōjo to shounen.

15. One-Punch Man

one punch man

Status: In issue.

This is another anime (unexpectedly) a great success and I can not pass unnoticed among the fans seinen who enjoy good battle scenes.

One-Punch Man tells the story of Saitama , a young man who begins intense training with the aim of becoming the strongest superhero in the world … and he succeeds!

Able to defeat his enemies with just a single hit, this bald hero in the yellow uniform and with rubber gloves (sexy, right?) Has captivated the public with a humor and an attitude that sometimes borders on ridicule.

One-Punch Man is a cliche festival of traditional shounen narratives , but one that has already conquered the heart of a legion of otakus . To understand the reason, you will have to watch the series and be “infected” by this fever!

14. Charlotte the best anime

charlotte

Status: Finished (13 episodes).

In an alternate world, some individuals possess special powers that only develop when they reach puberty. This is the case of Otosaka Yuu , a young man who discovers that he is capable of “possessing” people’s minds … but only for 5 seconds.

This is what makes Charlotte different and what makes this anime a very interesting option for those looking for a story that stands out from the ordinary: the limitations of the characters’ powers.

For example, there is a girl capable of becoming invisible, but only for one person at a time, and another who manages to be possessed by spirits, but only by that of her sister … And so this team of people with “super “powers.

13. Death Parade

death parade

Status: Finished (12 episodes).

For those who want to flee from anime full of battles and blows, Death Parade is one of the most interesting news that is surprising fans.

Based on the short Death Billiards , the anime shows that when two people die at the same time they are sent to mysterious bars that are run by bartenders , spirits who act as judges for those places.

There, people must participate in a series of games that serve to try to decide their respective destinies: to reincarnate on Earth or condemned to wander eternally through the void.

Death Parade is a very intense and dark psychological thriller . If you like this anime genre, you’re already slow to watch it!

12. Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

attack on titan

Status: On air (25 episodes – Season 1).

Based on the shonen manga created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan tells the story of a world devastated by the attack of giants that have devoured much of the Earth’s population.

A group of survivors live in isolation inside a great wall, but not for long … When the peace of the place is threatened, Eren Jaeger, a young man.

In almost every episode there are scenes of beheadings and people being dismembered by the Titans. But Attack of Titan is more than just gratuitous violence, as many people might suppose. Blood is not what matters most in this anime, just a tool to show the fragility of human life …

In addition to the anime, Attack of Titan also has 5 OVA’s, two movies based on the anime’s first season, two live-action movies based on the manga, electronic games, light novels spin-offs, and, of course, the manga. There is nothing!

11. Orange

orange anime

Status: On air (13 episodes – Season 1).

Takamiya Naho is very clear … This young student is the protagonist of Orange , a spectacular drama series intended for the shōjo and seinen public.

Naho receives a letter sent by herself 10 years in the future on the first day of class. At first, she totally ignores its content, which warns of some supposed events that would lead to a tragedy.

After realizing that the letter is real, Naho begins to follow all directions written by herself in the future in an attempt to save her friend Kakeru Naruse from a horrible fate.

In addition to the anime and manga, Orange also has a movie directed by Mitsujirō Hashimoto.

10. Sword Art Online

art online anime

Status : On air (49 episodes – 2 seasons).

Sword Art Online tells the story of a group of friends who, in the distant future, use a team called Nerve Gear to get into a MMORPG game.

But, something terrible happens and young people get caught up in the game. To get out, they will have to face all the challenges and bosses of the game. Oh, and dying is not an option, otherwise the brains of the participants can literally be melted!

The anime is based on the light novel of the same title, and has also originated manga, a movie, an OVA, and various electronic games.

9. Kiseijū: Sei no Kakuritsu

kiseiju

Status: Finished (24 episodes).

Also known as Parasyte , this is another anime that is not suitable for sensitive eyes. With grotesque images capable of disturbing the sleep of many, Kiseijū tells the story of a group of alien parasitic worms that have invaded Earth to control the bodies of human beings.

Izumi Shinichi , a 17-year-old student, was one of those victims … Well, more or less. A parasite attempted to invade Shinichi’s brain, but was unsuccessful and can only dominate the child’s right hand.

With the help of Migi – name of the parasite that happens to live in the boy’s hand – Izumi transforms into a superhero that fights the other parasites.

8. Monster

monster anime

Status: Completed (74 episodes).

Fleeing some animes shounen , Monster is one of the seinen most acclaimed among fans. Based on the manga of the same name, created by Naoki Urasawa , Monster (2004 – 2005) is produced by Madhouse, which is already a good start.

The story accompanies neurosurgeon Kenzou Tenma , a successful doctor with a commendable reputation, but who sees his life change completely after a tragic episode.

7. Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi (ERASED)

erased anime

Status: Completed (12 episodes).

Aspiring mangaka , Satoru Fujinuma is a young man with a rather peculiar power: he manages to travel through time whenever a tragedy happens.

When his mother is brutally murdered, Fujinuma goes back 18 years back in time to try to alter a series of events that led to the emergence of the dangerous serial killer responsible for killing his mother.

The manga that inspired the anime is made up of 8 volumes, but there is a new edition ( Boku Dake ga Inai Machi: Re ) that continues to be published. Netflix produced a series of real-life image with great success that has conquered fans due to its high fidelity and quality, as well as delving more into the psychology of the characters than the anime itself.

6. Another

another anime

Status: Finished (12 episodes).

If you are a fan of horror anime, Another can not miss on your list.

Based on the light novel of Yukito Ayatsuji (which was later adapted to the manga), this anime has a great deal of supernatural suspense to the delight of his followers.

The young Sakakibara is transferred to the Yomiyama Norte school, going to a class that is far from normal.

Horrible deaths and constant fear stalk the students, who believe they are trapped in a curse that started 23 years ago, when one of the students died. Or at least that was what was thought …

Another is a short anime and straight to the point, ideal for those who cannot bear stories with much mimimi . But a warning, be prepared to be impressed, because Another is not to be taken as a joke …

5. Cowboy Bebop

cowboy bepop

Status: Finished (26 episodes).

Cowboy Bebop (1998 – 1999) is different from most of the Japanese animations you have seen. With purely cinematic scenes, a stunning color palette, and a spectacular soundtrack, watching this anime is almost a must-do of how good it is.

Produced by Sunrise, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Cowboy Bebop tells the story of a group of bounty hunters in a future where humans have migrated to other planets in the Solar System.

The human population has disproportionately credited, as have the criminals, and it is up to members of the Bebop ship (Spike, Jet, Valentine, Ed, and Ein) to hunt down the criminals. With this plot as a basis, each episode explores mature and philosophical issues, such as loneliness and existentialism.

Cowboy Bebop has a lot of influence on American culture, mainly from the western movies and from the mafia and jazz of the 40s.

4. Bakuman ( best anime )

bakuman anime

Status: Finished (75 episodes – 3 seasons).

From the same creators of Death Note (Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata), Bakuman is the anime that every aspiring mangaka (manga creator) has always wanted to see!

The anime story revolves around Mashiro Moritaka and Takagi Akito , two young men who want to become the best mangakas in the world.

Ignoring the teen drama present in the anime, Bakuman is a true class of how manga creation works. The stages of production, the relationship between author and publisher, the difficulties of having the manga approved and how to keep it weekly among the best sellers … all that is portrayed in this anime.

Bakuman also does a satire (and tribute) to various contemporary anime and manga that continue to be released, such as One Piece and Naruto , for example.

3. Psycho-Pass

psyco pass anime

Status: Finished (22 episodes).

With a touch reminiscent of Minority Report , Psycho-Pass is ideal for those who enjoy science fiction ( Sci-Fi ) stories , with a dense, complex plot and quite stylish characters.

Psycho-Pass shows a futuristic dystopian world, where all human beings are considered probable criminals, until proven otherwise. People are constantly analyzed and observed, being punished before even thinking of committing some type of crime.

The anime addresses very interesting questions about the human psyche and reflections on the meaning of good and evil. Another good suggestion for anyone who wants to flee from senseless blows.

2. Berserk ( best anime )

berserk anime

Status: In issue.

This is one of the most popular seinen series in the world, did you know that? It already has over 40 million manga sold!

The story revolves around a cursed ex-mercenary and swordsman, named Guts , who lives on the mission of slaying the demonic Apostles. In addition to many explicit sex scenes, Berserk also has unapologetic graphic violence for minors.

The battles in Berserk are epic, but that’s not what makes the series so wonderful, but the density of the plot and the characters’ personality.

If you are over 18 and looking for a good seinen anime to enjoy, Berserk is the best choice!

1. xxxHolic

xxxholic anime

Status: Finished (37 episodes – 2 seasons).

Another CLAMP masterpiece, with characters so charismatic that it’s impossible not to get hooked!

xxxHolic tells the story of Watanuki Kimihiro , a young student who has the gift of seeing and attracting spirits. While being attacked by one of those entities from beyond, Watanuki desperately enters Ichihara Yuuko’s tent.

Yuuko’s store is anything but normal. ability to make “dreams come true”. Watanuki wishes to stop seeing spirits, but as payment for Yuuko to realize her wish, the young man will have to work in the woman’s store.

And it is there where we are “captured” by the wonder that is xxxHolic ! Each episode features a different client that Yuuko serves, dealing with themes that are inspired by legends and superstitions typical of the Japanese imaginary.

And best of all (mainly for fans of CLAMP’s work) and watch the crossover that xxxHolic does with Tsubasa: RESERVHO CHRoNiCLE , where both series share the same story.

Obviously, we cannot forget Doumeki, a young man who becomes the “guardian angel” and perfect antithesis of Watanuki, and of the Mokona (who did not ever dream of having a Mokona?).

In addition to the manga and anime, xxxHolic also has several episodes in OVA and a movie ( Manatsu in Yo en Yume ).
