How This Graphing Calculator Works
Type a function of x into any of the equation fields, such as x^2, sin(x), or sqrt(x) + 2, and the graph updates instantly. Add more equations to compare several functions on the same graph, each shown in its own color. Adjust the X min, X max, Y min, and Y max fields to zoom into a specific area, or simply drag the graph with your mouse to pan around and scroll to zoom in or out.
Supported Functions and Symbols
- Basic operations. Addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), division (/), and exponents using the caret symbol, such as x^2 for x squared.
- Trigonometric functions. sin(x), cos(x), tan(x), asin(x), acos(x), and atan(x), using radians.
- Roots and logs. sqrt(x) for square root, log(x) for base 10 logarithm, and ln(x) for natural logarithm.
- Other functions. abs(x) for absolute value, exp(x) for e raised to the power of x, and floor(x), ceil(x), and round(x) for rounding.
- Constants. pi for the value of π and e for Euler’s number.
Tips for Reading the Graph
The horizontal and vertical grid lines are labeled at rounded intervals to help you read coordinates at a glance. If a curve seems to disappear or break, it usually means the function is undefined at that point, such as tan(x) at 90 degrees, or that the value goes outside the visible Y range. Try widening the Y min and Y max fields, or use Reset view to return to the default window.
