Using the search box
The Windows search box helps you find your machine name as well as find other resources. To use it, in the bottom left corner of your screen, click the search box and type the following:
PC name
In the search results, select “See the name of your PC”.
Next to “Device name”, the name of your computer appears.
Using File Explorer
You can also use Windows File Explorer to find your computer’s name.
While in a File Explorer window (press Windows + E to open it if it’s not already), in the left sidebar, right-click “This PC” and select “Properties.”
It will open an “About” page. Here, next to “Device Name”, the name of your PC is displayed.

Using the settings app
The Windows Settings app lists the name of your PC, as well as other information about your computer.
To use this method, open the Settings app by pressing Windows+i. In Settings, select “System”.
In the left sidebar, at the bottom, click “About”.
On the “About” page, next to “Device Name”, it has the name of your PC printed on it.
Using the Command Prompt
If you enjoy typing and running commands, there is a command line method you can use to see your machine name.
To use it, first, open a command prompt window. You can do this by accessing the “Start” menu, searching for “Command Prompt” and selecting the tool from the search results.
At the command prompt, type the hostname
command and press Enter:
hostname
This command only retrieves one value, which is the name of your PC.
Another command you can use to see your computer name along with your network adapter details is ipconfig /all
. Type this command in Command Prompt and press Enter, and you will see your machine name next to “Hostname”.
