Restarting Discord is not as easy as restarting any other app. This is because Discord continues to run in the background even if you have closed it. In this guide, we will show you how to properly reset Discord on your Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Restart Discord on Windows

On Windows, when you close Discord, the app continues to run in the background and is available to access in the system tray. You will have to exit the app a second time to close it.

To do that, first, make sure you’re inside the Discord app on your PC.

Then in the top right corner of Discord, click “X” to close the app. Remember that this will not completely close the application.

In your PC’s system tray (the bar at the bottom of the screen), search for Discord. If you don’t see it, click the up arrow icon.

Find Discord in the system tray.

When you find Discord, right-click it and choose “Exit Discord.”

And now the Discord app is completely closed on your machine.

To reset it, open the “Start” menu, search for “Discord” and select the app in the search results.

And everything is ready.

Rebooting your Windows PC is just as easy, if you want to.

Restart Discord on Mac

On a Mac, close Discord from the app’s menu bar.

To do that, first, make sure you’re inside the Discord app on your Mac.

From the Discord menu bar at the top, select Discord > Quit Discord. This will completely close the app.

You can then restart the app by opening Spotlight (using Command + Space), typing “Discord” and selecting the app from the list.

And so, you can also restart your Mac.

Reset Discord on Android

Simply closing Discord on Android can keep the app running in the background. To make sure the app is completely closed, force stop it from your phone’s settings menu.

To do that, first, open Settings on your phone. Then tap “Apps & notifications”.

From the list of apps on your screen, select Discord.

Advice: If you don’t see Discord listed, choose “See All X Apps” (where “X” is the number of apps you have). Then find and tap on Discord.

Choose Discord from the list of apps.

On the “Application Information” page, select “Force Stop”.

Choose “Accept” on the prompt.

And that is. Discord is now completely closed on your Android phone.

You can restart the app by opening your phone’s app drawer and tapping on the Discord icon.

If you want to reset your Android phone, there is an easy way to do it.

Restart Discord on iPhone and iPad

Unlike Android, iPhone and iPad do not have the option to force close apps. Instead, you close all your apps in the normal way.

To close Discord on your phone, first, swipe up from the bottom of your phone screen. This will open your open apps.

Find Discord in the app list and swipe up on the app card.

Swipe up on Discord.

Discord is now completely closed on your Apple phone. To restart it, go to your home screen and tap on the Discord icon. You can also restart your iPhone if necessary.

And that’s how you give your favorite chat client a fresh reboot.

Do you use Discord in a web browser? If so, consider resetting your browsers, such as Chrome and Firefox.
