How to sign out of Microsoft Outlook

If you don’t intend to use your email account with Microsoft Outlook, it’s a good idea to sign out of your account so others can’t see your data. You can do this in the desktop, web, Android, iPhone, and iPad versions of Outlook. We’ll show you how.

If you use the Outlook desktop app, know that signing out of your email account is different from signing out of the Microsoft account you use for your Office subscription. In this guide, we will cover how to sign out of your email account and not your subscription account.

Sign out of the Outlook desktop app

To delete your email account on your desktop, first launch the Outlook application on your computer. Then, in the top left corner of the app, click “File.”

<p>You will see an “Account Settings” window.  Here, access the “Data Files” tab.  You will need to create a new data file before you can log out of your email account.</p>

In the “Create or open Outlook data file” window that opens, at the bottom, click “OK” to create the file.

Back in the “Account Settings” window, choose the “Email” tab. Then select the email account to sign out and choose “Delete”.

Select “Yes” on the prompt.

And that is. Outlook will remove the selected email account from the application. If you ever want to use that account again, you’ll need to add it back to Outlook.

Sign out of the web version of Outlook

Signing out of Outlook on the web is as easy as signing out of any online service.

To get started, open your preferred web browser and launch the Outlook site.

In the upper right corner of Outlook, click your initials or profile picture.

In the profile menu that opens, choose “Sign out”.

And Outlook will disconnect you from your account. To access your emails again, you will need to log back into your account with your username and password.

To sign out of an email account on your mobile device, first launch the Outlook app on your phone. Then, in the top left corner of the app, tap on your profile icon.

Select your profile photo in the top left corner.

In the lower left corner of the menu that opens, tap “Settings” (a gear icon).

In “Settings”, in the “Email accounts” section, choose the email account to log out of.

Select the email account.

Scroll down the “Account Information” page that opens at the bottom. There, tap “Delete account”.
