Meta, formerly known as Facebook, sells a few different popular VR headsets. The 256GB Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 models will soon receive permanent price cuts, according to a new announcement.

Meta confirmed in a blog post today that it is lowering the prices of two of its VR headsets. The top-end Meta Quest Pro, which came in last year at the price of $1,500, is dropping to $1,000. Meanwhile, the 256GB version of the standalone Meta Quest VR headset is dropping from $500 to $430. It’s still a bit more expensive than it was before Meta raised the price last year, when the Quest 2 out of 128 GB jumped from $299 to $400, and the 256GB model went up from $399 to $500.

Unfortunately, the price of the cheaper Quest 2 with 128 GB of storage is unchanged from its current price of $400. The base model almost seems like just an upsell mechanism now: if you’re already shelling out $400 on a VR headset, throwing another $30 to double the storage is an easy call.

The 256GB Quest 2 has double the storage of the base model, with the same games and apps.

Meta said in its blog post: “While we are not lowering the price of the 128 GB SKU of Meta Quest 2, a new lower price for 256 GB of storage will allow even more people to feel the joy of games and experiences fully. enveloping. Similarly, by lowering the price of Meta Quest Pro, we are making our industry-leading Meta Reality technology and Infinite Display optical stack available to more businesses and professionals around the world.

New 256GB Quest 2 pricing will start on March 5 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan. , United Kingdom and United States. The Meta Quest Pro price drop will begin the same day in the US and Canada, and will be available on March 15 in all other countries.

Meta is lowering the prices of the Quest 2 and Quest Pro just two months after the end-of-life plan for the original headset was announced. Quest 1 will begin losing features on March 5, 2023, including access to Meta Horizon Home, with bug fixes only continuing “through 2024.”
