New rumors suggest that Samsung may finally be ready to ditch the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that has powered many of its mobile devices over the years. Instead, it will design a custom internal chipset built specifically for the Galaxy S line.
And before asking. Yes. Samsung already manufactures the Exynos processor, which we have seen in countless mobiles, tablets, etc. For those who don’t know, devices like the Galaxy S21 Ultra and many others ship with a Qualcomm processor in the US and other regions. At the same time, it packs Samsung’s own Exynos chipset in South Korea and select markets. It’s all a bit confusing.
As a result, we have seen countless arguments over Snapdragon vs. Exynos regarding Samsung devices. If these latest rumors are true, Samsung may follow in the footsteps of Apple and Google and build an entirely new chip that will debut in early 2025.
Back in April, the first reports of Samsung creating a new chip surfaced courtesy of iNews24, and now we’re hearing something similar from the famous Samsung leaker. Ice Universe on Twitter.
Samsung plans a processor dedicated to Galaxy phones to be used in the Galaxy S25 series in 2025.
– Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) May 16, 2022
As you can see above, the leaker claims that Samsung will launch a custom processor in 2025 that will launch with the Galaxy S25 and probably the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This could help the company better compete with Apple’s A and M series, not to mention Google’s new Tensor SoC.
It’s no secret that Samsung has faced some backlash over the GPS in its phones, not to mention a recent controversy with its Game Optimizer Service (GOS) app slowing down performance. By creating a new processor from the ground up for the Galaxy S25, Samsung is able to optimize the experience to increase performance, responsiveness, and battery life.
We will have to wait and see if these rumors are true. And if so, it will be interesting to see if Samsung makes it part of the Exynos lineup or changes the name entirely. Either way, the next Samsung phones could be even better if this is true.
