How To Stop Your iPhone Camera From Flipping?

The iPhone 14 Pro may come with an all-new 48MP sensor, but it doesn’t seem to work well for everyone. Some users report problems when the camera on their new phone physically fails out of the blue.

iPhone 14 Pro units have already started arriving in customers’ hands, with some customers reporting on social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok that their camera seems quite broken in some apps. On a number of devices, using your camera in third-party apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat will display a wobbly, out-of-focus camera signal accompanied by an unpleasant, screeching sound coming from the camera module. It also seems to happen with the front camera.

The issue appears to be related to a misconfigured or broken Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). While we can’t say for sure that it’s happening to all iPhone 14 Pro users, there are a worryingly growing number of reports on social media. Many of these users also report that their camera works perfectly when using the iPhone’s camera app, only breaking on third-party apps. Given this, it definitely sounds more like a software issue than a hardware issue that would require a recall.

For now, we would definitely avoid using your phone’s camera in third party apps if you are affected. Although it is not a hardware problem now, this issue is caused by the camera sensor physically wobbling, as indicated by the grinding sound. And you could definitely damage your camera permanently if you abuse it. For now, we’ll have to wait until Apple either acknowledges the issue or releases an iOS 16 update to fix it.
