What is a timeline on Facebook?
Your posts, mentions, tags, and experiences are grouped in chronological order. This is the visual representation known as fb story. Whatever you do and share on the platform, go there.
In the past this was called a “wall”. Now your profile and business are combined, making the platform easier to navigate.
Your FB page can be visually divided into three main parts: profile and cover photo, information, and timeline.
The first thing visitors see is your profile and cover photos. At the bottom left, they can see your information about: where you live, where you work, what you studied, etc. On the right, you can see your business: life events, photos, tags, etc.
How to use it?

First, go to your profile by clicking on your photo in the top left corner of Facebook.
Once you’re there, you can start setting up your profile and posting to your timeline. Your first post will be the beginning of your FB timeline. You’ll find the “Update Status” section just above it.

You can access it by clicking the three dots above the status update section and going to Profile & Tagging Settings.
From there you can decide how to share your posts and who can see them. This is essential for using Facebook’s timeline feature. People often don’t realize that their posts are public or shared with the wrong visitors.
For example, many companies these days will review the social media profiles of prospective job applicants. You don’t want a random party photo getting in the way of your career.
So you want to choose Who else can post on yours? fb story. It can be just you or you can allow your friends to post as well.
If you’ve chosen the latter, be sure to trust the friends you add. However, the best decision would be enable review options at the end of the section. This gives you full control over which posts are shared on your profile.
Did you also know that you can select the audience for each post as you create it? That is how:
- Click on What do you have in mind on top of yours News either Timeline. From here you can create your publication.
- Just below your name is the selected audience (ex. friends). Click on it to choose from other options.
You can also change the audience of a previous post on the Facebook timeline by clicking the little icon next to the date and time of the post.
If you don’t know what’s public on your timeline, there’s an easy way to find out. Go down to the bottom of the Profile and tagging settings and click Seen as. This allows you see which of your posts are public. Also, you will be able to see how your profile looks to strangers.
If you see something you don’t like, you can change the audience or hide it from your timeline. Note that the original poster is what defines the audience. Even if you hide things from your timeline, they can still show up on Facebook.
How to view your history on Facebook
There is an easy way to view the full history and search the history.
- Go to your page by clicking on your photo in the upper left corner of Facebook
- Click on the three dots on the right side below your cover photo.
- To choose activity log from the drop down menu
- Explore your Facebook history.
In the activity log, you can check all your activities on Facebook. You can search by time and date and sort your history.
