NVIDIA’s RTX 4000 range of graphics cards have been around for a while, with the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 being used in gaming PCs for a few weeks now. But laptop owners were limited to RTX 3000 series laptops. The Ada Lovelace architecture is now coming to laptops with five different GPUs.
NVIDIA attended CES 2023 to present its new line of GPUs for laptops. The company says this is its biggest generational leap in laptops, reportedly with efficiency increases of up to 3X while keeping its cards fast. It also announces the fifth generation of its Max-Q laptop technology, which integrates, among other things, DLSS 3 support for better gaming performance.
There are five GPUs you can get in your next laptop, starting with the cheap RTX 4050, which is packed with 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM. There are also different high-end options available, including the RTX 4060, 4070, 4080, and even the 4090.
The RTX 4090 itself isn’t quite as powerful as the desktop variant, but it’s no slouch with 16GB of VRAM. Previous rumors had said that the RTX 4090 laptop rivals the performance of the RTX 3090 desktop, which is not bad when you consider that the GPU was one of the most powerful cards on the market from 2020 to 2022. While NVIDIA did not confirm or deny that part. He said the RTX 4070 laptop can provide RTX 3080-level performance with a third of the power consumption of that card, so we’re off to a good start there.
The RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 laptops will start landing on store shelves starting February 8, and you can expect them to start at $2,000; Of course this will vary depending on the laptop you get and its setup.
