Tips to remember while removing ceramic tiles

This process of tile removal is quite simple; however, there are certain things you must keep in mind while performing tile removal.

Here are some top tips to keep in mind for successful ceramic tile removal:

  1. Prepare the tools

The tools that you can use for tile removal depend on the size of the job. If it is a considerably small job, then you can use a chisel and ball peen hammer. On the other hand, if there are quite a few tiles to remove, you can go for power tools.

If you plan on installing a brand-new tile floor, then using a high-quality tile cutter and tile saw should do the trick. Also, keep in mind that you need protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, knee pads, ear muffs, etc.

  1. Make sure you remove the baseboards

You don’t necessarily need to remove the baseboards of your walls for tile removal. However, doing so would definitely make the job easier. You can then easily lift the tiles off without causing any damage to the baseboards.

You can simply use a knife to loosen the baseboard adhesive and then simply pry it out with a screwdriver.

  1. Get rid of the grout before the tiles

Grout is what is used to bond the tiles while laying them out on the floor. Hence, removing the grout beforehand would make your job considerably easier. As a result, you will end up minimising the debris, and you can use the removed tiles for another project.

For a smaller area, you can comfortably use a small chisel and a ball peen hammer. However, for large floors, some power tools will have to enter the picture.

  1. Don’t forget about the underlayment

Once you have removed all the tiles, you need to stack them up and pack them. However, the job is still not done. You need to get rid of all the underlayment to start working on the floor again.

Simply use a chisel and hammer, and remove all the underlayment left behind.

Wrapping up

As mentioned earlier, tile removal is quite an easy process. All you need to have are the right tools and an understanding of how they work. The above-mentioned tips will help you get through the ceramic tile removal process efficiently.

So get all your tools in order, take necessary precautions, and then begin with your home renovations!
